On February 9, 2010, British Columbia Premier Gordon Campbell delivered his Speech from the Throne. While outlining a vision for BC’s future, Premier Campbell's throne speech paid special attention to the important role that will be played by renewable energy companies, green electricity, and the green investing opportunities that will be provided by alternative energy funds and the steadily growing sustainable energy industry.
The Benefits of Sustainable Energy - Preserving the Environment Through Investing in Green Electricity Initiatives
British Columbia is known worldwide for its naturally stunning backdrop of mountains, ocean, and temperate rainforest. One of the obligations of presiding over this environment is to preserve it for future generations to enjoy. That renewable energy companies can play a major role in this goal was addressed directly by the Premier in his throne speech, as he promised to create a new budget that (among other things), “maximizes our [British Columbia’s] potential as a clean energy powerhouse and a global leader in climate action.”
Boost the Economy Via Green Investing in Alternative Energy Funds and Renewable Energy Companies
More than just a path to a cleaner planet, the development of sustainable energy could play a major role in the economic recovery of British Columbia, Canada, and North America as a whole. The potential benefits of the public investing in green electricity initiatives such as those offered by the renewable energy companies included in BC Hydro’s Clean Power Call include a substantial boost to British Columbia’s economy and a decreased reliance on non-renewable fossil fuels.
Campbell’s Plan for BC - Renewable Energy Companies Providing Green Electricity
Premier Gordon Campbell’s throne speech opened the door for an increased availability of alternative energy funds and green investing opportunities. Referring to sustainable energy as “this century’s greenfield of opportunity,” the Premier emphasized BC’s potential for generating green electricity from solar, tidal, wave, wind, run-of-river, bioenergy, and geothermal sources. In a move sure to appeal to the Independent Power Producers of BC (IPPBC) and the BC Citizens for Green Energy (BCCGE), Campbell pledged to “encourage new investments in independent power production.”
Green Investing Opportunities Set to Prosper Under British Columbia’s Clean Energy Act
According to Campbell's throne speech, the province’s new Clean Energy Act will also:
- support “new investment partnerships in infrastructure that encourage and enable clean modes of transportation”
- “develop and capture B.C.'s unique capability to firm and shape the intermittent power supply that characterizes new sources of clean energy to deliver reliable, competitively-priced, clean power”
British Columbians wanting to support renewable energy companies and green electricity production may soon have a large array of alternative energy funds to add to their portfolios.
